Today
a fleece jacket with a kangaroo pocket and a hood is popular among
men, women, and children for its warmth and style. This kangaroo hoodie can be purchased practically in any department store in the U.S. for
casual or sport purposes. The overwhelming majority of hooded fleece
jackets are made of cotton or wool for their invaluable properties
to warm or cool the body. Many kangaroo hooded jackets are specifically
made of cotton French terry, which is a natural, stretchy, and warm
fabric.
Cotton French terry is used as the major fabric for kangaroo hoodies with
the wool a second major. The most valued properties of both wool and cotton,
in general, are insulation and water absorbency. Cotton and wool keep bodies
warm by catching strings of air among the threads in the fabric and creating
a strong warm air-layer. This warm air-layer remains in the cotton and
wool fibers for a long time, keeping one’s body warm and the fresh
air away. That is exactly why so many people prefer to wear natural cotton
or wool kangaroo fleece jackets rather than less warm synthetic jackets
for the winter time.
Both cotton and wool materials can absorb water very well, although wool
is much more water-repellant than cotton. Because of its fiber structure,
wool can prevent small amounts of water from coming through the fabric.
The water drops either stay on the surface of the fabric or run off from
it when contact occurs. On the other hand, if too much water gets on a
wool fleece jacket, it will absorb the water instantly, keeping the body
dryer and cooler when a person is sweating.
Cotton French terry is not as expensive as majority of wool fabrics, which
are harder to sew and take care of, and, therefore, used most often in
the design of the kangaroo hooded sweaters.
